5080 Study of gas flow in torrefaction reactor

The goal is to optimize the design of the material feed in the torrefaction reactor.
Experiments were done on a real size plexiglas model of the pilot torrefaction reactor in Umeå.
The tests included solutions to minimize material spread between the screw blades, at maintained optimal gas transport through the screw and calculation and tests of the maximum fill ratio. The conclusions were implemented in the new design of reactor and cooling screw in the Industrial Demonstration Unit (IDU) in Holmsund, Sweden.
