algpilot 2The pilot is placed close to the combined power and heating plant Dåva in Umeå. With the aid of leachate and smoke gases it will produce biomass in the form of algae. Algae need carbon dioxide and nutrition in order to grow. The combined power and heating plant Dåva outside Umeå will pump carbon dioxide rich smoke gases to the pilot. As nutrition mainly leachate from garbage dumps and residual streams from the industry as well as sewage water from the forest industry is used.

The algae pilot consists of three raceway dams each of 6, as well as one of 20 m³, and a laboratory unit including equipment. Four dams makes it possible to do tests with different algae and different kinds of water at the same time.
